| The beach
            at Grande-anse This is by
far the prettiest beach in the South. Sitrole alongside th waves but
take care no to swim outside the protected pool as the currents here
are very strong, even when the ocean appears to be calm. Lie in the
shade of sumptuous coconut trees gently swaying in teh sea breezes
or bask in the sunshine on the white sand. Why not take a snorkel
and watch the tropical fish swimming in the clear water, dashing in
and out of the coral. Or simply relax and wtch the movements of fhe
ocean, the waves lapping on the sand. On sundays,
take a look at local folklore, as Reunion families come out in force
with their picnics. They arrive en masse armed with huge saucepans,
folding tables, chairs, tarpaulin , for a veritable open ari feast.
It is a heartwarming sight to see the families scattered on the lawns,
the children laughing and playing to the sounds of traditional " séga
" and " maloya " music. You cannot help but fall in love with this
            festive atmosphere ! |
