FASHION - Mondrian dress by Yves St-Laurent.... Allier Priscilla | |||
TEXT: Mondrian was a Dutch painter recognized as one of the pioneers of abstraction. He had a more and more abstract interpretation of analytical cubism from 1912 till 1914. Neo-plasticism consisted in a white basis, upon which was painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines, using three primary colors. Yves Saint-Laurent was a stylist who used one of Mondrian's painting to make a short, sleeveless, straight-cut, jersey dress of silk crêpe. It is pieced together with heavy silk crêpes, mainly white with a geometrical design of horizontal and vertical black bands. This dress was presented during the Autumn/winter 1965 collection. The cyclists of «La vie Claire» also wear a jersey inspired by Mondrian's painting. VOCABULARY: the pioneer of abstraction: pionner de l'abstraction |
